HABITAT AND RANGE:

50-58 cm; generally dark plumage; tail with extended central rectrices in jaegers; wings long: falcon-like in jaegers, Buteo-like in skuas; feet webbed; hallux small;

FOOD:

 raptorial pirates and predators on smaller vertebrates

BREEDING:

dispersed breeding in lined nest with 2 eggs; sexes similar; usually monogamous; biparental care;
