15-50 cm; bare forehead, crown, or frontal wattle; bill straight, slender; wings broad, with metacarpal spur; tail short; legs, toes, claws extremely long; walk on floating vegetation;

FOOD:

feed principally on invertebrates, and/or aquatic vertebrates

BREEDING:

female usually larger than male; polyandrous; male parental care; floating nest with 4 eggs.
