38 cm; bill strong, laterally compressed; looks like cross between an avocet and a night heron; crepuscular; wings long, pointed; tail short; legs long, middle claw pectinate;

FOOD:

eats mostly crabs;

BREEDING:

single-egg clutch in burrow nest; female slightly smaller; colonial.
