I am interested in how anthropogenic activities influence nutrient cycling in forests as well as how nutrients interact with one another within ecosystems. In the Northeastern U.S., acid deposition has been linked to declines in soil calcium (Ca) availability. Concurrently, atmospheric carbon dioxide levels and nitrogen (N) deposition have increased. I am investigating how long-term changes in soil Ca status affect above and belowground carbon (C) and N cycling and sequestration in forests. Additionally, I am studying how individual tree species influence soil nutrient dynamics. |
