The last decade has brought an explosion of innovative research, redefining the scope of the Life Sciences. By decoding genomes and parsing complex interaction webs, we are gaining unparalleled understanding of how cells, organisms and ecosystems function. Much of this ground-breaking research is being done by women -- truly

inspiring scientists who are leaders and pioneers in their fields. Women are increasingly entering graduate programs in fields traditionally dominated by men, and the status of women in the life sciences is approaching the tipping point to full representation based on merit. However, such advances have been tempered by poor retention of trained women life scientists,

who remain less likely than men to seek academic research positions or advance to tenure if they do. Interactions with role-models of scientific excellence and leadership are a crucial aspect of training and mentorship of scientists of all genders and ages. The Frontiers Symposium will provide those interactions for the Cornell Life Sciences community.

APRIL 2-3, 2012 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Biotech G-10

The Frontiers Symposium celebrates research excellence and the achievements and career-perspectives of a select group of Life Scientists.

The Frontiers Symposium will gather eight elite women life scientists at Cornell University for two days of activities. Each will give a lecture on their ground-breaking research and interact with Cornell undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty in small gatherings and panel discussions.
